Born on 4 July 1897 in present-day Andhra Pradesh, Alluri Sitarama Raju displayed remarkable intelligence, spiritual depth, and compassion from a young age. He travelled extensively, studied Indian philosophy, and developed a deep understanding of the struggles faced by ordinary people. These experiences shaped a young man who believed that true leadership meant serving others before oneself.
At a time when British colonial rule imposed harsh restrictions on the tribal communities living in the forests of the Eastern Ghats, Alluri chose not to remain a silent observer. He stood alongside the oppressed, earning their trust through humility, kindness, and genuine concern for their welfare. Rather than seeking personal comfort, he devoted his life to restoring dignity and hope to those who had been denied both.
His leadership came to national prominence during the Rampa Rebellion, when he organised tribal communities and led a determined resistance against British rule. Although the rebellion was eventually suppressed, Alluri's spirit could never be defeated. In 1924, at only twenty-seven years of age, he willingly sacrificed his life for the dream of a free India.
