DAY 6 – GITA WEEK - LEARN SRI KRISHNA ASHTAKAM - శ్రీ కృష్ణాష్టకం
Sri Krishna Ashtakam composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya is a deeply revered and spiritually uplifting composition that extols the virtues and divine attributes of Lord Krishna, the supreme deity who serves as a guide and teacher to all of humanity. This sacred hymn, consisting of eight verses, beautifully captures the essence of Krishna's divine persona, his miraculous deeds, and his eternal presence in the lives of his devotees.
Each
verse of the Ashtakam celebrates a different aspect of Krishna's divine form,
from his enchanting physical appearance adorned with jewels and flowers to his
heroic acts of protecting the righteous and vanquishing evil. Reciting the
Krishna Ashtakam is believed to bring immense spiritual merit, purifying the
soul and erasing the sins accumulated over countless lifetimes.
For
devotees, it is a source of solace, inspiration, and a means to connect with
the boundless grace of Lord Krishna, the Jagadguru or the teacher of the world.
వసుదేవసుతం దేవం కంసచాణూరమర్దనం |

శ్రీవత్సాంకం మహోరస్కం వనమాలావిరాజితం |
శంఖచక్రధరం దేవం కృష్ణం వందే జగద్గురుం || ౮ ||

కృష్ణాష్టకమిదం పుణ్యం ప్రాతరుత్థాయ యః పఠేత్ |
కోటిజన్మకృతం పాపం స్మరణేన వినశ్యతి ||

Koaṭijanma Kṛthaṃ Paapaṃ Smaraṇaena Vinashyathi ॥

Ithi Shree Krishnaashtakam
Meaning:
1.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna,
Who is the God who is the son of Vasudeva,
Who killed Kamsa and Chanoora,
And who gave immense joy to Devaki.
2.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna,
Who decorates himself with flowers of Athasee.
Who shines in garlands and anklets that he wears.
And who has a bangle made of jewels in his right hand.
3.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna,
Who is blessed with black curly hair,
Who is very similar to the full moon,
And who shines in his ear drops.
4.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna.
Who has the sweet scent of mandara flowers,
Who has a pretty smile and four arms,
And who decorates is hair with peacock feathers.
5.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna,
Who has eyes resembling the fully open lotus flowers,
Who has the blue colour of rich clouds,
And who is the chief gem of the clan of Yadavas.
6.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna,
Who is engaged in playing with Rukmani,
Who shines in yellow silks,
And who is attracted by scent of ocimum.
7.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna.
Who is embraced by the two busts of Gopis,
Whose chest has the marks of saffron,
Who lives with Lakshmi and has a big bow.
8.
Salutations to the teacher of the world,
Krishna,
Who has the mole Sri Vathsa on his chest and greatly enjoys,
Who is decorated by garlands of forest flowers,
And who holds the conch and the holy wheel.
If one
reads this as soon as he awakes in the morning,
This divine octet of Lord Krishna without fail,
Sins committed in billions of lives,
Would be destroyed, if one thinks about him.
The recitation of Sri Krishna Ashtakam is not merely an act
of devotion but a profound spiritual practice that has the power to transform
the lives of those who embrace it with sincerity. The hymn encapsulates the
infinite love and compassion of Lord Krishna, who remains ever-present in the
hearts of his devotees, guiding them through the trials and tribulations of
life.

the cycle of birth and death, as stated in the final verse, underscores the
